Sodium silicate
Sodium silicate, also known as "water glass" has varied industrial applications.
It is used as a builder in soaps and in combination with other alkalies for heavy
metal cleaning. It is extensively used in the manufacture of detergents, silicagel,
cardboard and paper, textiles, paints and adhesives as well as in tanning, pottery,
refractory, foundry and wood processing industries. It is used by manufacturers of
Ceramic tile, silicate clay adhesives and also for employed as rust- proof coating
on metal. Sodium silicate has also good binding, adhesives and sizing properties.
